To Be a Poet

To be a poet

has no bounds

No necessary process

No need for frowns.

To mix and to match, some thoughts and words,

to write the understandables, and the absurds.

The intention to be free

in speech and in creed

to go with the Flow on paper and in deed.

Cycles

The Sun rises and sets.

The Body wakes and sleeps.

The Human is born and dies.

The Soul moves from one incarnation to the next.

The Universe expands and contacts.

Breathe in and out. Our time is precious. We have all the time in the world.

Moving On

Looking back on my life

many things have cause much strife

To myself and others around

mistakes and hurt feelings abound

The only path is to forgive and move on

knowing the hurt and the pain have long since gone

Guilt and shame do not serve us well

nor forcing upon ourselves a version of hell.

I have lived, I have learned, I can do better still.

I will be kind to myself and give to others good will.

Material to Grow

The food we consume can be more than just fuel.

The effects on our body can be kind or can be cruel

To absorb the essence of what we digest,

We seek the inputs that would be the best,

For building strength and health

is surely the goal

To nurture our physical form and also our soul

Happy Haze

Going through life in a happy haze,

distorting my perspective and blurring the days,

Distracts from the anxieties and pains that I feel,

But does it prevent my ability to heal?

The scriptures advise to avoid its allure,

despite what appears an immediate cure.

Its effects may run counter to the goals for which I strive,

by changing the experience of what it feels to be alive.

With weed I have struggled to find it proper place,

In my work, in my play, in my own time and space.

A balance I seek, though who draws the line?

In the end, I retort “everything will be fine.”

On/Off

When to rest and when to push?

When to tense like a rock, or go limp like mush?

The body needs a balance of both states to be true

How much time to spend in each is all up to you.

Seek to find a balance and you may find,

Your body will reward your heart and your mind.

Be Kind to Your Body

The body we have is an incredible machine

To keep it functioning well, it’s best to stay clean.

For our diets are its building blocks as well as its fuel.

What you give is what you get, that’s the general rule.

So be conscious of your choices and substances you ingest.

Stay active, breath deeply, and get plenty of rest.

Your body will thank you, and so will your mind.

To our physical form, it’s best to be kind.

Standup Therapy

The comic stands on the stage, telling stories from life.

Revealing feelings and emotions, tales of confusion and strife.

Seeking connection with the audience, something on which to relate.

Using humor to transmute to laughter, things which started as hate.

To be vulnerable and exposed, on a stage so alone.

To reconcile the absurdity of life and, with the audience, atone.

The Life Path

Born into a world of chaos and delight,

Trying to figure out when to relax or when to fight.

For the goals that we have are not achieved through thoughts alone.

Intention must turn to action, for the path to be shown.

Where you end up in the end, you may never guess.

But being thankful for the chance to walk the path is a sure way to be blessed.

Lost Friends

Friends in life may come and may go

How long they stick around we shall never know

With some we choose to break the ties

For others we may be left to wonder why

They no longer call or reach out to set a date

Is it planned, is it chance, or the hand of fate

That causes these bonds to fade or to last

Some drift apart slowly and some very fast.

Saving

To live each day, as if it’s your last.

To make the goal of your life to just have a blast.

Can be fun for some time, but where does it lead?

To an unplanned future and an unmet need?

Can sacrifice today, create a better tomorrow?

Can a little pain in the now, prevent future sorrow?

Perhaps a balance we must find to enjoy life today.

To save for the future and keep our excesses at bay.

Game of Life

Life is just a game you see,

A world designed to set us free.

Many challenges and baddies in the way,

Our friends and loved ones make us happy to stay.

To explore and grow in this magical place,

Through the mundane and the exciting experiences we face.

It’s up to you which way you shall go,

For in the end, no one really seems to know,

What happens after our turn at life is through

Perhaps when it’s over, the game will start anew.

Substance Use

Some smoke weed

Some drink booze

Some wake early

Some hit snooze

Some take caffeine when they are in a bind

Some take hallucinogens to expand their mind

Some drugs they change the way that we feel

Some of their effects our bodies must heal

Some continue to consume them again and again

Some are habits, some are addictions, some feel like old best friends.

Look Up

The ups and downs of life, can make you feel lost and confused

Some people seem to strive to make others feel abused.

It’s important to find and focus on the love.

To know that there is a higher purpose from above.

Look not at the mud and muck below.

Rather, set your sights toward the sky and continue to grow.

Mind Escape

Why does my mind try to escape?

To travel to a dimension up and away.

Above the monotony of life and seeming red tape.

Of a world where people don’t mean what they say.

In my mind, I can create a new place.

One of freedom and escape from this rat race.

Though the goal is to get there through will alone.

And to resort to just setting stoned.

Ode to Snow

Snow, snow, I love you so.

Will you come back some day?

Summer is fun and fall is so pretty, but winter is best, I say.

Even though you are cold and your winds may sting - it is for you I pray.

May the heavens fall with puffy white bliss, that we may frolic and play.

Core Power

There is a power that resides, deep inside.

It assures my hear there’s no need to hide.

All the strength that is stored somewhere within,

To keep it locked away is surely a sin.

So let your Self shine forth into wide world.

Unravel the snake lying in your root curled.

Your boldness will inspire all those around.

Your soul will feel free, your spirit unbound.

Take courage from this truth and the good Lord above.

To your true and powerful core, send it much Love.

Where is Sleep?

Where do we go when we fall asleep?

We pray for the Lord our soul to keep.

But where is it kept while our body’s in suspension?

Does our spirit soar away into another dimension?

New Work

Going to work, day in and day out

The tedium and routine, makes me seriously doubt

Whether this is the way I should really be living

To this soul-less operation, should I really be giving

My time and efforts, to further its cause

It helps pay the bills, while giving me pause

But for now I go on with the choice I have made

For it’s the best way I’ve found for my work to be paid

Though I dream of a day, where I can earn a living

In a way that allows my heart to be giving

Itself to a goal that feels meaningful and true

And where day in and day out, I can feel brand new.

Where is Sleep?

Where do we go when we fall asleep?

We pray for the Lord our soul to keep.

But where is it kept while our body’s in suspension?

Does our spirit soar away into another dimension?

More Beach Please

Out of the city and down to the shore

To my favorite place, I wish to go more

Life within concrete, becomes such a bore

For my swim trunks and shirt, I reach in my drawer

Since I cannot resist the blue ocean’s allure

I hope this time will be as nice as every time before.

Good Habits

Habits, routines, and structure in our days

Can feel mundane in so many ways

Consistent practice may feel tedious and boring

Why wake up early, why not keep snoring

But the results over time, will make you think twice

Since being sporadic just does not suffice

For reaching our goals takes work over time

Consistent good habits can bring the sublime.

The Body

The body is a beautiful thing

It can run and laugh and dance and sing

It can curl up tight into a ball

It can pick you up every time you fall

To treat it well, that is the goal

To be its guardian that is our role

For it is the only one that we get

And being harsh to it we will regret

What we put in, is we will get out

So be nice to yourself, about this have no doubt.

Present

How to give you something real

To show you how I truly feel

The days go by, only until

I am by your side and my heart is still

The plans we have within our minds

May be based on faith, but are not blind

To the struggles ahead that we shall face

For I long to share with you my time and my space.

Two Views

These days, to me, it seems to be

There are two views that I do see

One to play by all the rules

One that thinks we are all fools

To take ourselves so seriously

Rather than to laugh and just be free

To balance the perspectives seems to way

To merge the views and go about your day.

True Action

Are there doubts within my mind?

Of all the things I’ve left behind

Of all the roads I did not take

Of all the choices I did not make?

Questions linger, that is for sure

And it seems to me the only cure

Is to strive to act in a true way

And act in accordance to what we say

Looking Forward

Looking forward we wish that the present move on

All the chores and mundane by then would be long gone

To imagine that future state does not seem so wrong

The joys that lie ahead cry out their Siren’s song

But embrace the now, for later will come to pass

And once the future is the now, we know it will not last.

Humanity Organism

Is humanity as whole

Really the organism that’s in control?

Are individual humans more like cells

Doing what the bigger life-form needs and tells

Processing information like nodes

As we protect ourselves in our abodes

Our roads and trains, like arteries and veins

The choices we make at every junction, really serving a larger function?

Sometimes our days just don’t make sense

Unless viewed from decades hence

When the actions of all can be combined

And accomplish the goals of humanity’s mind.

A Good Life?

How to live a “good” life is more complicated than it seems

Is it better to focus on others, or pursue my wildest dreams?

Is it enough to live with love and be kind in what I do?

To act with integrity and with my words be true

If I die today and have no legacy to pass on

Will my soul be content, when my body is all gone?
